Universityit has been a fascinating first week of a new chapter in my life. i finally had a taste of living independently and using up my own expenses for every single thing (ouch). no air-conditioning either. hall life is pretty interesting i must say. freeeeeeeeedom! ive got so much freedom that i dont know what to do with it. hahhaa.
i've also spent a bomb on art materials at art friend and popular, but the shopping list is infinitely adding on and we have not even started buying our textbooks and macs. i also had a glimpse of the new adm life i'll be having, with the professors we call by name and the assignments spanning a few weeks at a go. and all that awesome fun we'll be having, doing hands-on art works and drawings. something i've been yearning to do all my life. already, i have learnt much from the words of wisdom of my adm profs, and watched some pretty interesting,
highly profound art films such as
Akira Kurosawa's Dreams.
and the problem with art films is that they leave such a huge impact on you, but you walk out not understanding the point/not seeing the meaning in 90% of it.
but how very exciting :) i've gained more knowledge this week than in all the eight months i've practically wasted my brain away.
anyway, socialising and making new friends everywhere i go has become a part of my life. it gets tiring after a while, and i have constant trouble fitting names with faces with other miscellaneous information which might be related to that person. and in university, you start to see that everyone is somehow one way or another related to you. singapore is that pathetically small.
080808 The Beijing Olympicsas i was watching the opening ceremony for the beijing olympics, i was struck by how amazingly beautiful the whole package was- the presentation, the artistry, the performers, the traditional and historical flavour of China that it brought out. and the precision and dedication of the performers were amazing. it'd beat Singapore's NDP anytime. the discipline of everyone of the few thousand Chinese performers got nothing less than a jaw drop from me. my impression towards the Chinese have changed, hahhaa. zhang yimou was nothing short of a genius. shocked, stunned and charmed the world, China has.
090808 Happy 43rd Birthday Singapore!its singapore's birthday once again! the time when senior minister lee kwan yew sees himself 43 years ago in black and white film making motivational speeches across the big screens of the national stadium/padang/marina bay (for this year) and draws a tear or two from himself.
anyway, i managed to get a pair of tickets from my very generous aunt. i went with my sister pearlyn, and felt like a kid all over again. getting the freebies, singing along to nostalgic ndp songs and soaking up the whole ndp atmosphere (literally soaking cos we were drenched in the heavy drizzle throughout the first half of the show). wasnt much else that was fascinating or unexpected otherwise, but the fireworks always never fail to end the show with a bang. crowd pleaser and favourite. nobody can watch a fireworks display and still feel like shit. fireworks are amazing. lovely.
took tonnes of photos at the ndp, like 300 over, but mostly bad ones. will show it on my blog soon all the same :)
i initially wanted to go back down to ytps to celebrate with the kids but i had lessons all morning, bummer. :( i heard that they had 3 minutes of fame and most of my students were in it. sighhh. sorry dears i couldnt make it :(
and that marks my week one. more weeks to come, more interesting stuff, more assignments and more crazy stuff adm people do. and im looking forward to all :)
