i've suddenly got this craving for can 4's golden oat fish rice. and to sit at the top of adm star-gazing. and randomly wait for a shooting star. and chill out with pw with ben&jerry's from "the sun" at midnight, talking abt life and random things beyond life. and to walk back to halls in the wee hours of the night in the foggy, dewy, chilly air of ntu.

but im so not looking forward to going back to school.

happy new years eve to everyone, enjoy the last of 2008 while you can.

literally digging these old photos, because i've been diggin up the past and looking at my parents' share of their history (i must admit im 2% influenced due to the little nyonya tv show). but now im so in love with the vintage, old camera kinda effect - blurred, messy, runny colours and a never-know-what-you-gonna-get outcome - but it is exactly these flaws that the picture comes out as beautiful and oh-so unique.

^ my personal favourite. beautiful place, even more awesome with the lomo-ish effects. and believe it or not, this is in singapore :) id go back everyday to watch the massive fields of cat-tails glimmer and busk in the golden shower of dusk 'cept that it is infested with killer mosquitoes eating you alive for dinner.

44. you can only gel your hair when the parents see you
45. be pissed off when other people follow your directions

48. repeat... repeat... repeat your words

50. anything... because you have a BFA

hurhurhur, kinda nice for some bitter laugh. nice thinking that BFAs are pretty coolshits. and we do what we want when we want how we want to who we want. and we say "juxtapose" so much it is irksome. starting to get on my nerves, really. abuse of its use, especially for WAH "Juxtapose two or more works.."
but notice you cant really do anything big with your BFA. nothing about a career outta a BFA. ahhhhhhh~

& this is a friendly countdown reminder i have on my mac dashboard. i absolutely look forward to seeing its number deplete day after day. oh, yay. seven whole days.

I used to believe in Santa Claus.

Not many local kids have been through this phase in their lives. Singaporean parents simply don’t bother. They’ll dismiss the Christmas movies and cartoons that their children see of Christmas Father. They tell them, “Santa Claus exists in America only lah”.

I am one of the (arguably lucky) few who had a Santa. Santa Claus would visit my younger sister and I on the night of every Christmas Eve, and leave us presents, which we would delightfully find beside our pillows on Christmas morning. Oh, the joy and warmth I felt every time I received one of those magical Christmas presents. The entire world was so magical and amazingly wonderful.

It was foolproof – what we saw from the media through the telly also complemented our belief in Santa Claus. How he lived in the North Pole, riding flying reindeer, being able to tell if we had been good or bad, and coming through all those chimneys. The only problem was that we didn’t have such chimneys in Singapore. I would stay up late into the wee hours on the night before Christmas, wondering how Santa could miraculously enter my room through the window grills. And how he could make it in time to deliver so many many billions of presents to so many many billions of children throughout the world.

Then came The Year when I found out it was all one big conspiracy. My parents, my elder sisters, the Christmas carols, the tv shows, the story books, the world. Santa does not exist, as the burly rosy-cheeked old man who dons his red suit and delivers presents magically every Christmas. Santa only existed as the burly rosy-cheeked old man who dons his red suit and walks about in shopping malls. And if you looked closely, all the Santas were of different looks, different sizes, and different styles. No two Santas were the same. I was heartbroken. During The Year of revelation, I was nine.

It was kind of painful, having someone slap you in the face and telling you that you have believed in a lie all these while. Of course, parents do not intentionally mean to hurt their kids or to psychologically and emotionally damage them. Of course, I do not blame my parents for trying to pretend and (white) lie to me about the existence of magic, and Santa. Of course, Santa is but a figment of imagination and fantasy meant to make children happy and believe in fairytales and magic.

But that was not all. From then on, I became one of Them. In order to allow my younger sister the fairness in the duration of belief (and hence the joy of receiving Santa’s presents), I had to go on to pretend with my parents and elder sisters that Santa did exist, and lie to my younger sister about it. Four years I pretended to a loved one that something that did not exist, existed. At nine, I was taught to lie, feign truth and play pretend. To my own sister.

I sometimes wish I hadn’t eaten the apple from the Garden of Eden, or opened Pandora’s box. This paradoxical world that we live in is so beautiful, yet so ugly. Regaining a child’s innocence and being ignorant to the horrible truth and awful lies in the real world will be the most joyful Christmas present anyone can ever get.

Gosh, I managed to turn beautiful Christmas into an ugly lie. Again, a paradox, people. Paradox. Did anyone also happen to realize how similar “paradox” is in spelling to “Pandora’s Box”? The resemblance is uncanny and they are almost anagrams of each other. Okay, using http://wordsmith.org/anagram/ I managed to rearrange the word “pandoras box” into “paradox snob”. And to my utmost amazement, "santa claus" rearranges to be "can assault" and "us anal acts". Or, maybe just simply rearranging "santa" into "satan". Wow, the English language itself is a paradox too.

But wait, before its too late, I shall stop with this nonsensical verbal vomit.
But I would also still like to dedicate this to all people who have ever been cheated into believing a lie.
Merry Christmas yall. :)

sometimes i wish i were a superhero, just so i'll have powers to play with. (but spare me the donning of spandex and underwear over tights thankyouvehmuch) one power i would love to have is the ability to turn back time. silly jane yours truly is always full of regrets. "i wish i'd done that" or "i wish i hadnt chosen this". i wish i could go back in time, before adm, back to the happy colourful days of Early 2008.

even if i cant be a superhero, i'd like to meet one. i need someone to save me. everyone needs a saviour, a god, be it a physically human one or not. a being that knows, and can grant us the comfort and peace we seek in times of peril. when we feel like all hope is gone. let my saviour be superman. i want to watch him fly around and save my crumbling world. i'd ask to fly with him to space and watch the stars up close. and for him i'd gladly destroy any kryptonite.
even if i would have to die.

shu:
1. this has nothing to do with anyone prior to this having some superman pencil box.
2. superman is a muscled man yes, but he is not a gym rat nor does he down protein shakes. :)

remember those primary school art class days, whereby the art teacher gave you strips of coloured paper shredded from the paper shredding machines, and you curled them up to form pictures of flowers and butterflies (only to have a terrible time getting them to stick in as little a mess as possible with all that white glue)

Yulia Brodskaya. omg i adore her craftsmanship.

been a little crazy over jap anime movies, caught the girl who leapt through time and howl's moving castle within a couple of days. but still, spirited away is the winnar. i love the quirkiness of these japanese. they're so creative and weird and think totally out of the box, genius in fantasy plots and all that. totally needed this fantasy get away. anyway since we're in the japan-ish mood, i posted 1-click on my blog some time back, but when i recently went to visit it again it has changed. pretty cool - very disturbing, but cool. japanese are sooooo weird. but i like.

okay i've stopped being stupid and done something useful with my life. new blog layout! ta-dahhhh. haha. i've decided that life is too short to be wasted on stuff that do not deserve my time. i repeat, do not deserve my time. there is a wonderful world out there, and im happy to be alive and to be able to see, smell, hear, touch, taste and do all these amazingly awesome stuffs. life is too good to be wasted on things that do not deserve my time.

i wish all my dearest friends who are in love all the best, for love doesnt come easy, and treasure the one you have now. oh, and please, remember to keep any promises you make; trust and trustworthiness are of utmost importance, lest you hurt your partner.
and for those of you who are single like me, cheers to singlehood! freedom still reigns over love after all this time. x)
