i was talking to my sister:
me: i have a presentation next week on Vermeer.
sister: it is some kind of eating disorder, no?
me (appalled): no, he was a Dutch painter!
and i regret to inform you that she is the same sister who is an art teacher. gasps oh my goodness gracious me faints. there is my family for you.
i have really fallen home-sick so i decided to go home today and just bask in the love and warmth of my family's company. i've been feeling so dreadfully shitty these days and i think i kinda know the reason why. my parents were extremely surprised (but i could tell that they were very pleased too) that i just popped by home out of the blue, and my sisters were really psyched too. i was asked the same "why are you home?" question five times (they sounded paranoid; suspicious, even), but i simply replied that i just
wanted to. although i havent seen them in just three days, i suddenly felt like i missed them a lot, and they, probably me too. it was weird, but by surprising them and coming home, i think i made everyone's day, including mine of course. this is a comfort zone that i just keep falling back on when i need them, but seldom there for them when they needed me.
absence, indeed, makes the heart grow fonder. when something is absent, the more it will be missed, and it is only when you miss something that you discover how much you subconsciously love this thing. even the simplest things like your favourite pen or notebook, which, when you carelessly lose, are suddenly greatly missed and you realise how much you have taken these things for granted.
